Brasil on the Hill was created to share the fascinating Brazilian culture with the greater Washington DC metro area through language, culinary and other thematic classes and events.
Valeria is a highly experienced Portuguese teacher, having taught beginning, intermediate, advanced, business and Portuguese for Spanish speakers at institutions across DC, including Georgetown University and the World Bank. She relies on her high energy and background as a Brazilian political journalist to foster an engaging learning atmosphere. "I ensure that students support each other and feel encouraged to participate, even if that means making mistakes. My biggest satisfaction comes when students challenge themselves to give birth (da luz) to unfamiliar words and expressions in Portuguese, the language of the future!" Valeria earned a MA in Government from the Center for Latin American Studies, at Georgetown University.
